PAVING OUR WAY IN BURKINA FASO

PAVING OUR WAY IN BURKINA FASO

“Just like many of our previous projects, the Bombore Gold project is yet another one for the record books. This mill was installed on site in Burkina Faso under a challenging timeframe, and yet NCP still managed to deliver the project on time and within budget. This marks yet another NCP Mill supplied into West Africa, with our West-African Technical support partner offering after sales technical support for the life of the mill.”- Brian Mills (NCP’s Managing Director).

In 2021, NCP was awarded the contract for the supply of a new 17’ x 25’, 3200kW Ball Mill which included the mill control panel and supply of the VVVF VSD for main drive motor.

NCP fulfilled all our commitments made at sales stage, and completed the mill design, manufacture, and supply of selected critical spares.

NCP was subsequently appointed as the mill installation contractor by Lycopodium Minerals, who were appointed by Orezone Gold Corporation as the EPCM company managing this project. NCP was also contracted to supply the mill installation tooling for the project and will be providing commissioning assistance services to our client.
The Bombore Project once again emphasises that NCP has developed into a global leader in new grinding mill Supply and, no matter your project challenges, NCP will find a way to deliver a successful project to our ever-expanding client base.
STANDING THE TEST OF TIME

STANDING THE TEST OF TIME

In 1986 Osborn supplied two 14’ x 22’ shell-supported ball mills for a gold project located in Stilfontein, South Africa. The plant was shut in 2012 and NCP purchased the mills in 2017 together with a three-stage crushing circuit.

In 2019, NCP was awarded the contract for the supply of two 14’ x 22’ refurbished shell-supported ball mills for a client in Northern Zimbabwe. Based on the client requirements and the redundant stock NCP had available, an agreement was reached to supply the mine with re-engineered and refurbished mill components.

NCP’s scope of supply included the MV switchgear together with liquid resistance starters and mill main motors. Several upgrades were completed including:

  • Changes to the ratio of the main reducers to increase the speed of the mill and allow increased power draw within the design limitations of the existing drive train.
  • Manufacturing new discharge endplates for a heavier cantilevered load required for the new trommel screen.
  • Changing the liner design from a grate discharge to an overflow discharge arrangement.

On completion of the mill refurbishment, NCP transported the mill components from Johannesburg, South Africa to the mine in Northern Zimbabwe. NCP’s installation team were on site to supervise and assist with the installation and upskill of the local labour, teaching them the necessary skills required for mill installation and maintenance.

The re-engineered and refurbished components completed under NCP’s quality control allowed us to provide a warrantee equivalent to that of new equipment.

The mills were successfully commissioned in 2021, completing the entire design, manufacture, delivery and installation cycle. The mills are operating successfully with full after-sales, technical support, and regular maintenance inspections being undertaken by NCP.

NCP SUPPLIES ONE OF THE LARGEST GEAR DRIVEN MILLS EVER MANUFACTURED

NCP SUPPLIES ONE OF THE LARGEST GEAR DRIVEN MILLS EVER MANUFACTURED

NCP successfully completed the supply of one of the world’s largest gear driven mills ever manufactured for RED 5’s KING OF THE HILLS (KOTH) gold project in Australia.

NCP was awarded this contract by Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) firm MACA Interquip and has delivered on all contractual commitments made during the lead up to the order placement.

The company supplied the KOTH project with a 36’Ø x 18′, 15 MW, Dual direct Drive Bi-directional Semi-autogenous (SAG) mill supported off multi-pad hydrostatic trunnion bearings.

The direct drive mill excludes the gearboxes, with the two main drive synchronous motors controlled by an ABB VVVF (Variable Voltage, Variable Frequency Drive) and directly coupled to the pinion shafts via torque limiting couplings. The duty of the mill is to grind Run of Mine (ROM) material fed at a rate of 500TPH from the primary crushing circuit at a F100 material size of 320mm, delivering a product of P80-150µm.

The Mill start sequence via the ACS6000 Variable Speed Drive ensures a controlled Mill start with locked-charge protection, which protects the mill structural integrity at all times. The Mill Drive train is designed to allow Mill Inching for mill maintenance purposes and includes the advantage of automatic Mill positioning to optimize relining functions.

NCP’s scope of work included the supply of the mill, delivered CIF to Freemantle port, Western Australia, and included installation supervision and commissioning assistance.

“The SAG Mill’s delivery time frame was critical for this project.”

NCP committed to an ex works delivery time frame of 38 Weeks from order. NCP achieved on-time delivery, including meeting shipment delivery time frames despite the COVID19 pandemic. NCP is proud to have met the client’s expectations in this regard.

The mill installation is 95% complete with commissioning planned to commence in March 2022. Installation has run to schedule with NCP providing the onsite Mill Installation supervision services. NCP will supply the client full aftermarket sales service, on-site service and technical support through our local partners.
“NCP is pleased to have successfully completed this mill supply following two other successful mill installations into the Australian market.

A LANDMARK PROJECT FOR THE NCP TEAM

A LANDMARK PROJECT FOR THE NCP TEAM

NCP secured the order from Swakop Uranium to supply the new Grinding Mill package for the Husab project in 2013, the project was installed a year later.

The contract included for the supply of a new 36 x 19.5ft, 13500kW Primary SAG Mill and a new 22 x 34ft, 8500kW Ball Mill.

The SAG Mill was designed to accept Primary crushed ore at F100-250mm from the primary stockpile and process the material in open circuit. The primary mill liner design allowed for pebble porting and a dedicated scats crushing circuit processing the ejected +80mm material and recycled this back to the SAG mill feed.

The Ball mill operated in closed circuit with several vibrating screens, with the circuit designed to treat 1875tph of Uranium ore delivering a product of P80-350um.

Both the SAG Mill and the Ball Mill were supplied as dual drive mills carrying full VSD capability, through supply of two ACS6000 VVVF Drives. The drives were designed to start the mills in a controlled fashion and allow the mill operation at a preselected speed to optimize the grind and the final product size distribution. The drives were supplied with creep capability including auto positioning to allow inching of the mills to a preselected position by using the main drive motors. In accordance with NCP’s specification and the client’s preference, both mills also carried mechanical inching drives.

NCP’s contract included for the design and manufacture of the mills, transport to the mine site which is located around 40km east of Swakopmund in Namibia and the full installation contract.

The site conditions defined the maximum site temperature more than 40deg C, which required the mill motors and Variable Speed Drives to be water cooled. NCP’s contract included for the design, supply and installation of a complete water chilling and distribution circuit.

The mills were successfully commissioned in 2016, completing the entire design, manufacture, delivery to site on time within 50 weeks. The mills have been successfully running since 2016, with full after sales and technical support offered by NCP.

“This was a landmark project and is believed to be amongst the largest gear driven mills operating in Africa. Another successful project completed on time and on budget by NCP.”
